I remember I once saw a food channel recommending some noodles from Sungai Lembing, and ever since then I wanted to try it out. Joe and I took an early morning 30 minutes’ drive from Kuantan to Sungai Lembing to have the noodles and famous tofu for our breakfast. I thought we were early, but when we were there we were greeted by a long queue and busy stalls’ owner.
Finally after a long queue, we were lucky enough to grab our food. We were really super lucky that there were even food left for us. We were the last customer to grab all the tofu, and I heard the lady boos telling the customers behind us that they have just sold out all of their tofu for the day. It was barely 9am! The tofu was silky smooth and the starch added flavours to this delicate dish. The tofu was stuffed with minced meat, which added extra flavours and textures to it.
I wanted to try their curry laksa, but the person before me just took the last bowl. So, I had the same dish as Joe – Sungai Lembing Noodles. It’s a simple bowl of noodles with black soya sauce and sprinkled with spring onions – simple yet flavourful. Their choices of noodles were unique too – it wasn’t your usual yellow noodles or the wanton noodles. I asked Joe and he said the locals called it “Sungai Lembing Mee”, and it’s unique to that area. We had 2 bowls of noodles and 6 tofu, and it only costs us RM5.50 in total. It was super cheap!
