This is possibly the best mix of stores of the malls I’ve wandered around Kuala Lumpur. Most of the stores seemed to be mid-range, although there are several lower-cost and higher-end stores mixed in. There is some themed clustering of shops — based on what they’re selling — but in general things seemed to be mixed, which I like when I’m wandering. This is also one of the few malls in which I’ve noticed an “Aeon” department store, which looks like it’s got a wide variety and good prices.
Mid-Valley is a very large mall, but — compared to so many other large malls around KL — it is somewhat smaller than I expected with its “Megamall” moniker. Two primary wings stretch from the central atrium, each with their own atrium hubs; in the center, there’s also an additional small wing and an even smaller ‘notch’ wing, adding more options. I thought the top two floors of Mid-Valley were very cool — this looked like the primary entertainment level and has modern, slightly dimmed lighting that goes well with the fun decor that feels like a village path, with lots of wood walls, slate and pebble floors, but modern steel mixed in; basically, it has a warm but modern feel (with “modern” being the key).
Restaurants are scattered throughout the mall, with a small food court here and there as well. These are in addition to the _huge_ food court in the basement, which links Mid-Valley Megamall to The Gardens mall. (The basement food court has plenty of modern places, and off the middle there’s a hall of old-school, very good, very affordable local food stalls.)
For now, Mid-Valley Megamall is a healthy walk from the Abdullah Hukum LRT station through The Gardens mall. (Or, fine, you could drive, taxi, or Uber.) It looks like a more direct bridge from the LRT to The Gardens is part of ongoing construction in the area, so that’ll at some point be a much more simple stretch.
